We provide transition in place services for homeless families and individuals. Rather than house the homeless in shelters, we place them in apartments around the valley. We pay their rent and utilities for up to 24 months. All participants are required to participate in case management services and make measurable progress towards goals in order to remain in the program. The goal is to help them become able to pay for their own housing. Once that goal is achieved and the family or individual is in a stable financial situation, they take over the rent and utility payments and we withdraw and provide follow-up services as needed. In this way, homeless families and individuals are empowered to develop supportive relationships in the neighborhood where they will remain housed – rather than within the homeless community. If the timing works out, the children may never know they were homeless.
